Â
You may never get the chance to beat longtime Lady Griz coach Robin Selvig at what he does best, which is lead Montana to victories on the basketball court, but you can still experience the thrill of defeating him at one of his most passionate avocations.
Â
Fans of the Lady Griz and fans of the card game are invited to participate in the team's 10th annual Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament, which will be held Saturday, May 7, at Paradise Falls in Missoula starting at noon.
Â
Last year's event drew more than 130 players. Tommy Brown, of Missoula, claimed the $2,000 winner's pot. Brent Nokleby, of Missoula, won $1,500 for finishing second. Missoula's Skyla Sisco, the 1997-98 Big Sky Conference MVP for the Lady Griz, was third and won $1,000.
Â
Proceeds from the tournament go toward funding the program's non-budgeted items, like tuition for summer school, fifth-year scholarships and other behind-the-scenes activities critical to the ongoing success of the Lady Griz program.
Â
People can participate in a number of ways, from being a sponsor to donating a raffle item to playing in the tournament. To donate a raffle prize or for more information, contact assistant coach Trish Duce at 406-243-5779.
