Montana arrives to Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – Following the announcement of where they would be sent on Sunday and a practice on their home court on Monday, Montana departed for the Sunflower State on Tuesday morning.

The first day was an eventful one. In addition to being a travel day, Montana also had a film session and a practice at a local YMCA. Prior to Tuesday, coaches had watched film on Michigan, but hadn't introduced the Wolverines to the team yet. That changed on Tuesday with a 45-minute session at the hotel. At the YMCA, Montana was able to get its legs loose while also walking through some of the plays it had just watched on film.
Montana is in the Big Dance for the 11th time in school history, including the seventh time this century. Still, though, it's new to nearly all current Griz. Travis DeCuire – as a player and assistant coach – and Ahmaad Rorie – as a freshman at Oregon in 2014-15 – are the only current Grizzlies who have been on this stage before.
Rorie on Tuesday was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 6 first team.
The Grizzlies had a team dinner together before a relaxing night in the hotel, playing cards, watching movies and spending time with family. Also this week, Montana received congratulatory gifts from Nike, including a custom T-shirt to wear during warmups and the choice between yet-to-be-released shoes from Kobe Bryant, Paul George or Kyrie Irving's lines.
Wednesday will be a busy second day in Wichita, including the team's first trip to INTRUST Bank Arena, where it will hold a press conference (5-5:35 p.m.; livestream) before a practice that is open to the public (5:40-6:20 p.m. CT).
