
Montana volleyball is expanding summer camps for players of all ages, skill levels

MISSOULA, Mont. – Summer is just around the corner, and that means one thing: Montana volleyball camps are near! The Grizzlies are hosting more camps than ever this summer, offering something for children of all ages, positions and skill levels.
The camps will be run by head coach Allison Lawrence and the Griz volleyball coaching staff, plus current and former student-athletes and other guest instructors.
Additionally, on Friday, April 27, Montana will host a free youth clinic for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. The free clinic for boys and girls will run from 4:30-5:30 p.m., and participants and the general public are invited to stay afterwards to watch the Griz play in the Maroon-Silver intrasquad scrimmage!
Below is a breakdown of each camp being offered this summer. More detailed information, including itinerary and registration, can be found online.
Free Youth Clinic – April 27
Grades: Kindergarten-6th
Prior to Montana's Maroon-Silver Scrimmage (free and open to the public), the Griz will host a free youth clinic for elementary-aged boys and girls. The clinic will be capped at 60 spots.
Basic Serving Camp – May 4
Grades: Kindergarten-12th
Serving camp is a unique opportunity to work on this one specific, crucial volleyball skill. This camp is geared toward athletes who are looking to learn the technique of serving. This camp will focus on breaking down serving technique and figuring out how to create power while still maintaining ball control. Come join us for a short and intense night of fun!
Youth Skills Camp – May 5 – OR – June 29
Grades: 4th-8th
Would you like to learn more about the game of volleyball and develop your skills as a player? Then join us for our one-day Youth Skills Camp! Whether you are brand new to the game or have been playing for a few years, you will develop better skills as an overall volleyball player and take your game to the next level. The Griz volleyball coaches will help you improve on each individual skill and progress into six-on-six-play.
Advanced Skills Camp – June 22-24
Grades: Entering 9th-12th
Are you ready to improve your overall volleyball skills and prepare for high school play? Then our Advanced Skills Camp is for you! We will train all aspects of the game and build on the knowledge that you already have. The Griz volleyball coaches will help you refine your skills individually and in specialized position training. We will progress into six-on-six play and finish the camp with tournament play.
Youth Skills Camp – June 29 – OR – May 5
Grades: Entering 4th-8th
Would you like to learn more about the game of volleyball and develop your skills as a player? Then join us for our one-day Youth Skills Camp! Whether you are brand new to the game or have been playing for a few years, you will develop better skills as an overall volleyball player and take your game to the next level. The Griz volleyball coaches will help you improve on each individual skill and progress into six-on-six-play.
Advanced Serving Camp – July 6
Grades: Entering 4th-12th
Serving camp is a unique opportunity to work on this one specific, crucial volleyball skill. This camp is geared toward athletes wanting to work on serving strategy, serving speed and precision. We will work on serving zones, serving under pressure and serving drills Griz players do in practice. We will also introduce both jump float and jump spin serves. Come join us for a short and intense night of fun!
Elite Camp – July 7 – OR – July 14
Grades: Entering 9th-12th
Are you ready to take your volleyball game to the next level? Then join us at our Elite Camp! This camp is offered over multiple dates in the summer and is best suited for high-level athletes who would like to experience a collegiate-level training environment. We will emphasize skill development specific for each position, teach strategy and compete in six-on-six play. Experience what it is like to have collegiate-level focus and intensity in a fun and fast-paced learning environment.
Men's Camp – July 9
Grades: Entering 6th-12th
Men's volleyball is one of the most thrilling and athletically premier sports in the world. Join us in our one-day camp to grow the men's game in Missoula. There will be several guest coaches who have competed at the collegiate level and who still compete on the sand circuit in the evergreen region. Please note: Boys are welcome in all our other camps applicable to their age. We just wanted to offer this camp specifically for men! A minimum of six participants is needed for camp to run.
Basic Attacking Camp – July 10
Grades: Entering kindergarten-12th
Join us for a night of attacking. This camp is focused on learning the mechanics of the attack. We will focus on footwork, creating rhythm with your approach, maximizing your jump, arm swing, and how to make good hand contact. This camp will be station based.
Libero/Defensive Specialist Camp – July 11
Grades: Entering 9th-12th
Do you have what it takes? This specialty camp will focus on the grit and hustle a defensive player needs in the college game. Join us for two hours of specific skill training on passing, defending and running the court from the back row. Fine tune your skills before high school season starts.
Setters Camp – July 13
Grades: Entering 9th-12th
Join us for an afternoon of precision and agility. The setter is one of the most important people on the court, and we want to help you be that both mentally and physically. Join us for a high-paced camp that will focus on footwork, contact point, decision making and court presence.
Advanced Attacking Camp – July 13
Grades: Entering 9th-12th
Join us for a night of attacking. Learn how to maximize your jump, create the most power and use your arm in the most effective way. This camp will be partly station based to break down certain aspects of your attack and will then move to competitive live situations.
Elite Camp – July 14 – OR – July 7
Grades: Entering 9th-12th
Are you ready to take your volleyball game to the next level? Then join us at our Elite Camp! This camp is offered over multiple dates in the summer and is best suited for high-level athletes who would like to experience a collegiate-level training environment. Team Camp – July 19-22
Get your high school team together and come join Montana volleyball at our annual Team Camp! We are excited to offer your team positional training, group training on and off the court, and game-like competition against other high school teams. You will get the chance to work with many different coaches and players during your time at camp. We will end the camp with tournament-style bracket play. Come enjoy beautiful Missoula, Montana, experience our gorgeous campus and get your team prepared for the fall season.
