... REMEMBER TO VOTE FOR MONTE: Monte, the University of Montana mascot, was one of 12 college mascots named to the first-ever Capital One All-America Mascot Team. Monte and the other mascots recently flew to Atlanta to film a television advertising campaign for Capital One. Monte and the other 11 mascots are competing for the title of Capital One National Mascot of the Year, which will be announced during the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1. Fans across the country can vote for their favorite mascot through online pulling at www.capitalonebowl.com.
"Each year the best college football players are named to All-America teams, and for the first time ever, college mascots will have their own team,'' said Pam Girardo of Capital One. "Capital One thinks it is time to give these true heroes the recognition they deserve.'' The All-America team was open to NCAA Division I-A and I-AA mascots representing football programs. Judges from ESPN, Capital One and the mascot community judged nomination kits in September. Each of the 12 mascots will receive $5,000, payable to the school's athletic department for use in scholarship and fundraising of the mascot program. The national winner will receive an additional $5,000. Other mascots named to the team were: Florida's Albert, Big Al from Alabama, Western Kentucky's Big Red, The Bird from the Air Force Academy, Buzz from Georgia Tech, the Penn State Nittany Lion, Otto the Orange from Syracuse, Sebastian the Ibis from Miami, Seymore from Southern Miss, Tennessee's Smokey, and Victor E. Bull from Buffalo. Be sure to send in your vote for Monte!!!

---- Stu and Janie Jo Nicholson of Great Falls will be honored this week as the recipients of The University of Montana Community Service Award. The awards are presented at Grizzly home football games to various individuals for their continued commitment toward their communities and UM. The award is co-sponsored by the UM Alumni Association and UM Athletics.
Previous winners this year are: Oct. 19 - Tom and Cynthia Markle, John "Jack" Markle and Dick and Janet Perkins Markle of Glasgow; Sept. 14 - George and Theresa Downey Gee of Spokane; and Sept. 7 - John and Ellen MacMillan of Kalispell. There were no Community Service Award recipients at the Homecoming football game.
--- The Grizzly Post-Game Party will begin at the Doubletree/Edgewater approximately one-half hour after the conclusion of the game. Featured speaker will be UM head football coach Joe Glenn, who will review the day's game, as well as upcoming action.
--- Grizzly Dens will be held each Tuesday during the football season at noon at the DoubleTree/Edgewater. The cost is $9.25 per person. Coaches from football, soccer, volleyball and cross-country will provide weekly updates of their programs.

Work is continuing on the UM Athletics "Hall of Champions" project, which will include the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame, as well as trophies, retired jerseys and other related materials to help preserve the history and promote the successes of UM Athletics. The hall will be located in the south concourse of the Adams Center on the UM campus.
Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the National Advisory Board for Grizzly Athletics, is raising approximately $300,000 to complete the project, which also consists of a donor wall for Grizzly Athletics. This wall will contain the names of those individuals who have made endowment gifts or major donations to the athletic department over the years totaling $5,000 or more. Categories will be established for the various giving levels to athletics ($5,000-$9,999; $10,000-$24,999; $25,000-$49,999; $50,000-$99,999; $100,000-$499,999; $500,000-$999,999; and $1 million and more). ... Fewer than 50 seats remain for the 2002 Grizzly Athletic Association Auction, which will take place on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Holiday Inn-Parkside in Missoula. The cost is $85 per person. RSVPs must be in by Nov. 1, and payment is due at the time of the reservation (Discover, Master Card, VISA and American Express are accepted).
The event will begin with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m., along with a hosted bar. Dinner will served at 7:30 p.m., with the pre-auction program and open auction instructions at 8:15 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., the silent auction will end and the open auction will begin.
Seating is limited so reservations should be made as soon as possible by contacting the GAA at (406) 243-6485. Dress for the event is business attire.
... The Grizzly Athletic Association will be sponsoring a bus trip to the UM-Eastern Washington game on Saturday, Nov. 16. The cost is $55 per person. The trip will be over-and-back the same day, and includes transportation, refreshments/snacks on the bus and game tickets. Times have not yet been set for departure, but the buses will arrive in time for the pre-game tailgates. For more information, or to make arrangements, call the GAA at (406) 243-6485. Seating is limited on both bus trips.
... Davidson Travel is organizing a booster trip to follow the Montana men's basketball team to the Great Alaska Shootout in late November. Prices include round-trip airfare from Missoula, hotel/airport transfers, three night's accommodations and tickets to all games involving the Grizzlies. Costs are as follows: single occupancy - $1,170; double occupancy - $1,027 per person; triple occupancy - $979 per person; and quad occupancy - $955 per person. ... The October "Trip of the Month" drawing for the Grizzly Athletic Association will take place during Saturday's football game when Montana hosts Northern Arizona. The November drawing will be held at the Nov. 9 contest between the Griz and Sacramento State. Mark Comfort of Missoula was the latest winner in the Grizzly Athletic Association's "Trip of the Month" program. He had his name drawn for a trip for two to Victoria, British Columbia. Other winners in this year's program include Doug Klein of Missoula (Puerto Vallarta), Harry Brown of Whitefish (Seattle Seahawks football game) and Mikki Rydell of Great Falls (Ireland). Other trips in this year's promotion include New York, Mexican Riviera cruise, Las Vegas, Walt Disney World/Orlando, Hawaii, Key West (Florida), Northern California Wine Country and Canadian Old Charm/Victoria, British Columbia. Tickets are still available for the Trip of the Month program. The cost is $150 for an opportunity to win one of the monthly drawings.
