... Bobby Hauck was introduced today as the new head football coach at The University of Montana. The 38-year-old Big Timber product replaces Joe Glenn, who recently accepted the job as the head football coach at Wyoming.
The University of Washington assistant coach and his family flew from Seattle to Missoula on Thursday. He met Thursday night with more than 40 of his players who were still in Missoula prior to the Christmas break. Today, Hauck started his day by gathering with members of the Quarterback Club, followed by receptions with staff members, boosters, etc. At noon, he was formally introduced at a press conference in the Grizzly Sky Club in the Adams Center.

UM Athletics is planning an expansion of the north end zone section of Washington-Grizzly Stadium in time for the next football season. More information is available on the UM Athletics web site at www.montanagrizzlies.com. The project may also include additional stadium suites.
... Despite a career-high 15 points from Crystal Baird and Hollie Tyler's fourth double-double of the season, The University of Montana fell to the University of Oregon 65-60 Thursday night at Dahlberg Arena. For more on the Lady Griz-Oregon game, visit www.montanagrizzlies.com.
... Montana was unable to pull off a second win in as many days, falling 86-69 to Pepperdine in the championship game of the Stanford Invitational. The Griz upset AP No. 17 Stanford 70-68 on Monday night in the first round. Montana's win over Stanford is the Grizzlies' first victory over a Top 25 team since 1982. ... Dave Evans of Missoula was the winner of the December "Trip of the Month" drawing, sponsored by the Grizzly Athletic Association. He won a trip for two to Las Vegas. The January drawing is for a trip for two to the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Other winners in this year's program include Mike McNamara of Missoula (Mexican Riviera), Wade Hoyt of Missoula (New York City), Mark Comfort of Missoula (Victoria, British Columbia), Doug Klein of Missoula (Puerto Vallarta), Harry Brown of Whitefish (Seattle Seahawks football game) and Mikki Rydell of Great Falls (Ireland). ... Touchdown Club winners have been announced for the 2002 football season. Prizes will be sent out to the various winners within the next two weeks. Work is continuing on the UM Athletics "Hall of Champions" project, which will include the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame, as well as trophies, retired jerseys and other related materials to help preserve the history and promote the successes of UM Athletics. The hall is located in the south concourse of the Adams Center on the UM campus.
Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the National Advisory Board for Grizzly Athletics, is raising approximately $350,000 to complete the project, which also consists of a donor wall for Grizzly Athletics. This wall will contain the names of those individuals who have made endowment gifts or major donations to the athletic department over the years totaling $5,000 or more. Categories will be established for the various giving levels to athletics ($5,000-$9,999; $10,000-$24,999; $25,000-$49,999; $50,000-$99,999; $100,000-$499,999; $500,000-$999,999; and $1 million and more). ... REMEMBER TO VOTE FOR MONTE: Monte, the University of Montana mascot, was one of 12 college mascots named to the first-ever Capital One All-America Mascot Team. Monte and the other mascots recently flew to Atlanta to film a television advertising campaign for Capital One. Monte and the other 11 mascots are competing for the title of Capital One National Mascot of the Year, which will be announced during the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1. Fans across the country can vote for their favorite mascot through online pulling at www.capitalonebowl.com.
"Each year the best college football players are named to All-America teams, and for the first time ever, college mascots will have their own team,'' said Pam Girardo of Capital One. "Capital One thinks it is time to give these true heroes the recognition they deserve.'' The All-America team was open to NCAA Division I-A and I-AA mascots representing football programs. Judges from ESPN, Capital One and the mascot community judged nomination kits in September. Each of the 12 mascots will receive $5,000, payable to the school's athletic department for use in scholarship and fundraising of the mascot program. The national winner will receive an additional $5,000. Other mascots named to the team were: Florida's Albert, Big Al from Alabama, Western Kentucky's Big Red, The Bird from the Air Force Academy, Buzz from Georgia Tech, the Penn State Nittany Lion, Otto the Orange from Syracuse, Sebastian the Ibis from Miami, Seymore from Southern Miss, Tennessee's Smokey, and Victor E. Bull from Buffalo. Be sure to send in your vote for Monte!!!
