The University of Montana men's track and field team has signed two sprinters, Chester "Tuff" Harris of Colstrip, Mont., and Aidin (Uh-deen) Milani of Toronto, Canada, for next season, head coach Tom Raunig announced today.
Harris, a sprinter and jumper at Colstrip High School, is a four-time Montana state champion. At last year's Class A state meet, Harris won three events and was second in a fourth. He won the 100 meters in a time of 10.77, which set a Montana all-class state record. He also won the long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 7-inches, and ran a leg on the winning 4 X 100 relay team. Harris placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.29.
As a sophomore in 2000, Harris won the Class B state long jump title while competing for Lodge Grass High School.
Harris also intends to play for the Grizzly football team. This fall he earned all-conference first team honors as a running back and all-state first team accolades as a defensive back.
Milani is a sprinter and hurdler who is transferring from Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. He competed for the Camels last season but is sitting out this year. He has personal best times of 10.8 in the 100 meters and 14.3 in the 110-meter high hurdles.
"We're excited to add Tuff and Aidin to the track and field team," Raunig said. "They should make an immediate impact in the Big Sky Conference."
Raunig said he expects both Harris and Milani to be key contributors next season with their versatility. While both figure to be among the Big Sky leaders in the sprints, Harris has the potential to excel in the jumps, while Milani will help replace the loss of senior hurdlers Bryan Anderson, Adam Bork and Charlie Thomas, all of whom qualified for the conference finals in the 110-meter high hurdles last year.
