... This week's Griz schedule:
--- Friday, March 21 - UM Lady Griz women's basketball at Wyoming, WNIT Tournament, 7 p.m.
--- Saturday, March 22 - Montana State men's tennis at UM, 11 a.m. (Lindsay Courts on the UM campus weather permitting; if inclement weather, matches will be moved indoors to the Missoula Athletic Club starting 2 p.m.).
--- Sunday, March 23 - UM women's tennis at Cal-Irvine Tournament.
... Two golfing fund-raisers for UM Athletics are currently scheduled in the Phoenix (Arizona) area on Sunday and Monday.
The first will take place on Sunday, March 23rd, sponsored by Al McCarthy and Duke's Sports and Grill. The two-person scramble will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Silverado Golf Course in Scottsdale. Cost is $100 per person. Following the golf outing at 6 p.m., there will be a social function at Duke's Sports and Grill in Scottsdale. For more information, or to register for the golf scramble, contact Al McCarthy at (480) 675-9724. Non-golfers are invited to attend the social. For those wearing Griz logo wear, the first beverage is free.
The next day, Monday, March 24th, the 2nd annual Griz 4-Person Scramble will take place at the Tatum Creek Ranch at Cave Creek, north of Scottsdale. The scramble will start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $110 per person, with proceeds going to UM Athletics. Following the golf, there will be hors d'oeurves, as well as a program featuring UM Athletic Director Wayne Hogan and new Griz football coach Bobby Hauck. ... The University of Montana women's basketball team will participate in the postseason after all. Despite falling in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference Tournament, the Lady Griz (20-9) were selected to participate in the 32-team Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). Montana will be on the road at Wyoming Friday, March 21st, at 7 p.m. (MST). Wyoming enters the tournament with a 17-11 overall record. The Cowgirls, who were 7-7 in the Mountain West Conference, lost 59-56 to Colorado State in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament.
Radio coverage will be provided by the Lady Griz flagship station, KLCY Radio in Missoula (930 AM), with Tom Stage providing play-by-play.

... The football season does not officially begin until next fall, but it has already started for Montana's players and coaches. The football players have been lifting weights in the morning three to four days a week since coming back from winter break in January. In the last month they have added conditioning and agility drills to their workout sessions. Springtime workouts are an annual part of Montana football, but the arrival of head coach Bobby Hauck has brought in a variety of new drills.
Spring practice will begin on April 3, and will conclude with the spring game in Polson on Saturday, April 26 at 1:30 p.m.

... The University of Montana women's tennis team went 2-1 last weekend at the Boise Invitational in round-robin play with Weber State and Lewis and Clark State College. Montana extended its record to 7-4 on the season and had a standout performance from freshman Erin Cooney. ... University of Montana junior guard Sam Riddle will leave UM and transfer to The University of Montana-Western in Dillon next fall, announced Griz Head Coach Pat Kennedy. "It was a real pleasure coaching Sam," Kennedy said. "During this past season both Sam and his family were a joy to work with. ... Brad Luck of Missoula was the March winner of the "Trip of the Month" drawing, sponsored by the Grizzly Athletic Association. Luck won a trip for two to Key West, Florida. April's winner will receive a trip for two to Northern California Wine Country.
In addition to Luck, other winners in this year's program include John and Leda Nugent of Butte (Kauai, Hawaii), Rick Lubke of Hamilton (Walt Disney Resort), Dave Evans of Missoula (Las Vegas), Mike McNamara of Missoula (Mexican Riviera), Wade Hoyt of Missoula (New York City), Mark Comfort of Missoula (Victoria, British Columbia), Doug Klein of Missoula (Puerto Vallarta), Harry Brown of Whitefish (Seattle Seahawks football game) and Mikki Rydell of Great Falls (Ireland). Other trips in this year's promotion include New York, Mexican Riviera cruise, Las Vegas, Walt Disney World/Orlando, Hawaii, Key West (Florida), Northern California Wine Country and Canadian Old Charm/Victoria, British Columbia. ... The University of Montana is planning an expansion of Washington Grizzly Stadium for the 2003 season. You can reserve the right to purchase $148 North End Zone season tickets today! All you need is a fully refundable $75* per seat deposit to reserve your seat.
Earlier this month, the state Board of Regents unanimously approved a proposal to add 4,004 seats to the north end zone of the University of Montana's football stadium, bringing capacity to 23,009. The cost is expected to run between $2 million and $2.5 million. The proposal also calls for additional restrooms and concession stands. Construction is expected to begin in April.

Also, it has been decided that a new stadium suites expansion project will be delayed until next year - and will not be a part of the seating project taking place this spring.
