The University of Montana cross country runner Antony Ford was selected to the 2002 U.S. Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team, the USCCCA announced recently.
In order to be named to the team, an individual must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average on a 4.00 scale and have either earned All-America honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships or finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Ford, a sophomore from Blackpool, England, who has a 3.42 GPA in exercise science, finished 16th at the NCAA Championships in November with a time of 30:01.0 to earn All-America honors. In addition, he was second at the Mountain Region Championships with a time of 30:11.0.
"This is a difficult award to achieve between combining placing that well and having to have that high of a GPA," UM head coach Tom Raunig said. "Antony is working very hard to get into physical therapy school, so it's a well-deserved award."
