Wyoming Downs Montana in Three Games

MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Wyoming volleyball team hit .376 for the match to defeat the University of Montana, 3-0, in a non-conference match for both teams at the West Auxiliary Gym on Thursday night. The Cowgirls limited the Grizzlies to .136 hitting in winning 30-17, 30-20, 33-31.
Wyoming improved to 8-3 on the season. Montana dropped to 5-6, snapping a three-match winning streak.
Wyoming hit .462 in game one and .407 in game two to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead. Montana played better in game three, hitting .178 after hitting just .091 and .125 in games one and two, but dropped a tight 33-31 decision.
Sophomore Whitney Pavlik, who played despite being ill, had a team-high 12 kills and hit .267 to lead the Griz. Senior Lizzie Wertz had eight kills and senior Audra Pearce seven.
Wertz and senior Claire Thompson lead UM with six digs each. Pavlik added five and Pearce four.
Freshman Shelley Boyd had 31 assists for Montana, with senior Mary Forrest picking up the Grizzlies' only block.
Andrea Seele had 16 kills and just one error in 23 attacks to hit .652 for Wyoming.
Montana is off until Monday when the Griz host Gonzaga in a 5 p.m. match at the West Auxiliary Gym.
