Volleyball plays well but falls in four at Sac State

The University of Montana volleyball team had four players finish with double-figure kills, but it was not enough to beat Sacramento State in a Big Sky Conference match at Sacramento, Calif., Thursday night. The Hornets defeated the Grizzlies in four games, 30-22, 30-27, 28-30, 20-30.
Montana had its two-match win streak snapped and dropped to 5-15 overall, 2-8 in league play.
Sac State improved to 19-6 overall, 7-2 in conference play.
For the 17th time in 19 matches, sophomore Claudia Houle led the Grizzlies in kills with 16. She also matched a season high with 21 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the season.
Joining Houle in double-figure kills were junior Audrey Jensen and freshman Micaela Parker with 11 kills each and freshman Jessica Petersen, who recorded 10.
The Griz continued their solid play at the net, out-blocking the Hornets 14.0 to 10.0. Petersen had a match-high seven blocks, Jensen added six, including three solo blocks, and senior Alice Myers had four.
Montana also continued to serve well, finishing with nine service aces against just six service errors. Jensen had three aces, junior Diana Thompson added two.
Thompson had 49 assists and freshman Jackie White led five Griz players in double-figure digs with a season-high 29.
Montana hit .170 for the match compared to Sac State's .239.
The Hornets were led by Sandra Bandimere, who had 24 kills and 22 digs. Sac State had four players finish with double-figure kills and four with double-figure digs.
The Griz are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Northern Arizona.
