Scott McGowan's 4:02.88 in the mile was the third-fastest qualifying time at the NCAA Indoor track and field championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday evening, moving the senior into Saturday's final. The two-time All-American from Poplar, Mont., was just three-tenths of a second behind top-qualifier Sean Johnson of the University of Indiana.
Antony Ford finished ninth in the 5,000 meters in his first appearance at the NCAA Championships. The sophomore crossed the finish line in a time of 14:04.60, narrowly missing scoring points for the Grizzly track team. Alistair Cragg of the University of Arkansas won the event with a time of 13:39.63. Adam Sutton of Providence University finished in 8th with a time of 14:03.47. Ford, who is a two-time All-American in cross country, should attain indoor track and field All-American status with his time in the 5,000.
McGowan will run in the mile finals tomorrow at 4:15 p.m. M.S.T.
