Brubaker Wraps Up Season with 25th-Place Showing at Nationals

University of Montana junior Dane Brubaker concluded his season with a 25th-place finish in the javelin preliminaries at the 2004 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Austin, Texas, on Thursday afternoon. Brubaker was competing in the national meet for the second consecutive year.
After fouling on his first of three attempts, Brubaker recorded a 202-00 and a 194-05 in his second and third throws, respectively. His high mark of 202-00 ranked Brubaker 25th out of 26 competitors in the javelin preliminaries. The top 12 performers advanced to Saturday's finals. The cutoff for advancing was 224-07.
Junior Gabriel Wallin of Boise State had the best mark in the prelims, throwing 254-08 on his second attempt.
Former Grizzly Doug Lefler, who is nowcompeting for Long Beach State, placed seventh and advanced to the finals with a long throw of 232-10.
Senior Scott McGowan will be competing in the 1,500 meter preliminaries on Thursday evening for Montana.
