Brosh, Pemberton lead Griz to team titles

Sophomore Allie Brosh won the women's race and junior Richie Pemberton finished third in the men's race to lead the University of Montana cross country teams to victories at Saturday's Eastern Washington Invitational.
The UM women had four of the first five scored runners and easily won the women's field with 20 points. They were trailed by Eastern Washington (51), Central Washington (71), Washington State's B team (116), Gonzaga (126) and Idaho?s B team (138).
The Grizzly men had four of the top seven scored runners to win the men's race with 29 points. Eastern Washington finished second with 36 points, Gonzaga was third with 77 points and Idaho was fourth with 87 points.
Brosh won the women's 5k race in 18:31.6, her first UM career competition at that distance. The Sandpoint, Idaho, native has finished as Montana's top runner at all four meets this fall and has two firsts and a second on the season.
Freshman Kim Tritz was seventh overall, but the third scored runner, finishing in 19:26.1. She was followed in succession by freshman Chelsea Burfeind (19:41.1) and senior Shannon Johnson (19:44.9).
Junior Dominique Colberg was Montana's final scorer, finishing in 10th overall (seventh scored) with a time of 19:50.8.
Other runner for the UM women were sophomore Kaci Calaway (13th, 20:01.6), senior Vasi Jankovich (20th, 20:15.6), sophomore Hanna Richtner-Ahlin (21st, 20:16.0), junior Katrina Baldwin (33rd, 21:17.2) and freshman Shannon Woodman (34th, 21:40.7).
Pemberton ran the 8k race in 26:09.1. Junior Matt Winter was fourth in 26:09.3, sophomore Dan Bingham fifth in 26:09.7, freshman Eli Hermann seventh in 26:40.4 and freshman Jeff Quickel 10th in 26:49.4.
Also running for the UM men were freshman Zach Betz (16th, 27:15.8), sophomore Duncan Hendrick (22nd, 27:41.7), freshman Kyle Malerk (25th, 27:53.9) and freshman Dennis Brands (29th, 28:23.1).
Saturday's race was the final tune-up for the Big Sky Conference Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at Ogden, Utah.
