Griz drop second straight, fall to Eastern Washington

The University of Montana volleyball team dropped its second straight Big Sky Conference match Saturday night, falling to Eastern Washington University in straight games, 21-30, 22-30, 22-30. With the loss the Grizzlies fall to to 7-9 overall, 4-3 in league play.
The Eagles won their third straight game to improve to 10-7, 3-5 in BSC play.
The difference in Saturday's match was hitting. Eastern Washington hit .316 as a team, while limiting Montana to .083 hitting, and had a commanding 53-27 advantage in kills.
UM senior Claudia Houle was the lone Griz to reach double-figure kills with 10. No other Montana player recorded more than four kills.
Junior Shelley Boyd had 14 assists, while freshman Taryn Wright added 12.
Houle also led Montana with nine digs. Junior Jackie White added eight.
Senior EvaLyn Whitehead had four blocks, with senior Emily Sakis, junior Jessica Petersen, sophomore Micaela Parker and Houle all adding two.
Eastern Washington had three players reach double-figure kills, led by Addie Webster's 16 on .433 hitting. Webster also had a match-high 18 digs.
Amanda Yausie had 38 assists for the Eagles, and Raelynn Chaffee added six blocks.
Montana hosts Sacramento State next Thursday before traveling to Bozeman, Mont., next Saturday to face Montana State. The Bobcats (6-10, 2-5 BSC) lost in three games to Portland State Saturday night, 21-30, 24-30, 20-30.
