After a dominating performance last week against the Idaho State Bengals, and a 23 to 10 victory, we take a break from conference play as we prepare for a very talented Cal Poly team.
Last week's defensive performance was spectacular in giving up only 92 total yards to a team that was averaging over 400 yards of offense. However, improvements still need to be made during the upcoming week. Cal Poly runs a very unorthodox style of offense which combines elements of the option with a roll-out passing attack.
The Mustangs are very talented at the skill positions. The running back is small and shifty with great speed, their star wide receiver is around 6' 7'' and is also very skilled. The offensive line is not very big, but they are very good at what they do. The blocking scheme for the Mustangs involves a ton of cut blocks and pulls allowing their more athletic offensive line to get out in space and make blocks.
This week may not affect the outlook of the conference, but it is certainly an important game as far as the play off picture is concerned. Not to mention that the Mustangs were the ones who ended our season last year.
We will certainly not take this game lightly, as a team we have a lot of respect for their talent, and know that it will take solid week of preparation combined with a superb performance on Saturday in all facets of the game.
We hope to see all who braving the elements at Washington Griz this Saturday, and I am sure it will be a hard fought match.
