The American Cancer Society will be the benefactor of the men??s basketball game between the University of Montana and Sacramento State, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Dahlberg Arena. The Big Sky Conference game will be a Coaches vs. Cancer event, with the Griz coaching staff wearing tennis shoes with their suits in order promote cancer awareness.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) will receive the proceeds from the game??s split-the-pot raffle.
??The money the Society receives will go directly towards helping us fund cancer research, continue our legislative advocacy, and support our many educational and community service programs,?? said Katie Murphy, the community relationship manager for the ACS.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a national event sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Since the program??s inception in 1993, more than 500 coaches have raised more than $30 million to support the Society??s lifesaving efforts to eliminate cancer.
As an added entertainment attraction, a number of Grizzly coaching staff and athletic department employees will have their heads shaved to further promote cancer awareness at a 12:30 p.m. news conference on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Dahlberg Arena. The public is invited to attend the news conference.
??The Montana coaches and the entire athletic department not only talk the talk, but they also walk the walk when it comes to being involved in the fight to defeat this disease,?? Murphy said. ??We hope Griz Nation comes out and enjoys the news conference and game, and offers its support to the American Cancer Society??s mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.??
