Women's champion: Weber State senior Sariah Long
What was your goal going into the race?
"I really wanted to win it. I put in a really hard summer this year, and I've been running great all season, so I knew I had it in me. I just needed a race to do it. And this was the race to do it. Perfect conditions and a perfect course. I'm a senior, and I didn't want any underclassmen to beat me."
At what point during the race did you know you were going to win?
"Probably by the first 800 because I felt everybody was slowing and I could hear heavy breathing and I felt really good. So, I thought, I am going to put on a move and if nobody can go with me then I'm probably going to keep that lead the whole time."
What were your impressions of the race atmosphere?
"I want to thank Montana for putting on a great course and for all of the support here. (Montana redshirt) Allie Brosh and one of her other teammates were out there cheering me on. It really helped knowing that they supported me as well as everybody else."
Men's champion: Northern Arizona junior Lopez Lomong
What was your plan going into the race?
"We were prepared and this was the result of a lot of preparation for the regional meet coming up. The boys went out there and did well ?C it is very good. I love the course, I love a lot of fans out here supporting everyone. It's phenomenal to be here in Montana. It was a great thing."
How did you feel during the race?
"I felt great. I felt great. It's good ?C when I am running and I see all of these fields, the hills, the mountains, it's a great place. It's a good thing."
Northern Arizona coach Eric Heins
What was your plan for the men's team going into the race?
"We wanted to stay in a pack of four midway through the race to about the 4k mark, then we wanted to try to gap some teams. For our second pack of guys ?C five, six, seven ?C we wanted them to be in range to get in the top fifteen or even top ten. And the same type of thing, wait until about 4k and then really push. And the guys ran it perfectly."
And the women?
"With the women we are a little bit different in that we have two front-runners and then we have a pack of five girls that can all be our No. 3 girl. So we wanted those girls to hang right around that 15 to 10 spot to give them all a shot to finish in the top 10, with Lesley (Van Miert) and Ilsa (Paulson) trying to go out and win the thing.
"And again, the girls ran it perfectly. Ilsa and Lesley got into the front pack and finished strong and then the rest of girls were right there from 11th on down to seventh, I believe, so we ran it perfectly."
