Grinnell misses NCAA Championships by less than two inches

The NCAA announced its qualifying lists for the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held this weekend at Fayetteville, Ark., Monday night, and there were no athletes from the University of Montana to make the cut.
UM sophomore Ryan Grinnell was the only athlete in contention for a spot after he posted a career-best mark of 51-7.25 to win the triple jump at the 2007 Big Sky Conference Championships two weekends ago at Bozeman, Mont.
The NCAA selected 15 triple jumpers, with the distance of 51-9 the final mark to get included. Grinnell tied for 19th on the NCAA??s final performance list.
The decision officially ends Montana's indoor track and field season. The Grizzlies' outdoor season commences Saturday, March 31, with the Al Manuel Invitational at Dornblaser Field in Missoula.
