Joyce's Journal Summer Edition - June 13, 2007

After a promising spring practice the team is already back to work. The spring gave us a chance to recognize the talent and experience that is still left on this team from the previous season. With a huge senior class, which includes myself, the Griz have great potential for success in the upcoming season.
The spring brought with it a lot of competition, both between the offense and defense, and between individuals fighting for positions on the team. This kind of competition is without question essential to our success. No one gets a free ride in our program, everyone has to prove themselves each year. Good competition eliminates complacency among the players and keeps our team constantly progressing toward our goals.
Nearly the entire team is already hard at work doing summer workouts. It is a great sign when you see the kind of turn-out at lifting, speed and conditioning workouts that I have already witnessed early in the summer. This is not to mention the extra work that the players organize and participate in themselves in seven-on-seven drills. This team is the most committed I have seen in the past four years that I have been here, and I am certainly looking forward to seeing what that commitment yields this upcoming season.
