MISSOULA, Mont. (Aug. 9, 2007) ?C The University of Montana announced today that Learfield Sports has become its exclusive athletics marketing partner for stadium and arena sponsorship rights beginning this fall. This move ushers in a new entity, known as ??Grizzly Sports Properties??, to oversee certain marketing activities for Montana Athletics through the assignment to Learfield of the remaining years of a contract previously owned and managed by former Grizzly football player Terry Pugh of Virtu Consulting.
Effective with the 2007-??08 academic year, Learfield??s Grizzly Sports Properties will oversee certain sponsorship rights, including all signage and video board advertising for Washington-Grizzly Stadium and Adams Center-Dahlberg Arena. Montana now joins Montana State as another Big Sky Conference member school whose rights are managed by Learfield Sports.
"We are happy about our new Learfield Sports?? partnership and look forward to great things ahead,?? said Athletics Director Jim O??Day. ??We understand it??s important for Grizzly Athletics to stay in a position that makes the most sense for our department and student-athletes in the years to come, and we believe Learfield Sports is the right choice. We also thank Terry Pugh and his company for his years of dedicated service to The University of Montana and its Athletic Department.??
??While I share a special tie to the Grizzlies, I recognize that Learfield Sports has a strong national presence that will greatly benefit this athletics program.??
??Jim and his entire athletic administration are to be commended for the excellent strides they have made as a department and within the Big Sky Conference, and we couldn??t be more pleased to start representing this fine university heading into the fall,?? said Greg Brown, president of Learfield Sports. ??We also appreciate the support and due diligence provided by the administrative staff at Main Hall, which was crucial in enabling us to initiate this new partnership with The University of Montana.??
With the addition of The University of Montana, the company now manages multimedia rights for 37 collegiate institutions and associations, including Oregon State University, Stanford University, the University of Colorado, San Jose State University, Utah State University, the University of Wyoming, the University of Idaho, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Minnesota, the University of Miami (FL), the University of North Carolina, Penn State University, and the University of Alabama. Learfield Sports also manages the marketing partnerships for the Black Coaches & Administrators (BCA) and provides exclusive sports programming to more than 1,000 radio stations throughout the country. Additionally, Team Services, LLC, a Learfield Sports company, specializes in venue naming rights, marketing research and sales consultation.
Dallas-based Learfield Sports is an operating unit of Jefferson City, Mo.-based Learfield Communications, Inc., which made its initial foray into the world of sports marketing in 1975 as the radio rights holder for the University of Missouri, still a client today.
