Student-athletes at the University of Montana achieved their highest-ever grade point averages both for the 2008 spring semester and cumulatively announced Jean Gee, Associate Athletic Director for Student Services and Compliance, Friday.
"I am simply overwhelmed by these numbers," Gee said. "Our student-athletes have far exceeded the performance of any class before them.
"Much of the credit for this success goes to our coaches for recruiting the right students for our university. I also greatly appreciate the hard work of Darr Tucknott and Louise Torgerson in Athletic Academic Services for guiding our student-athletes down the right academic path."
"This is a tremendous accomplishment, and we're very proud," added UM Director of Athletics Jim O'Day. "It serves notice that we are extremely committed to our primary goal of supporting the academic pursuits of our student-athletes."
Gee said that the Grizzlies' 271 student-athletes had an average grade point average for the 2008 spring semester of 3.08. The student-athletes' success in the classroom helped raise the average cumulative GPA to 3.05.
