The University of Montana has contracted with a sports marketing company to promote Grizzly Athletics for the next nine years.
The comprehensive multimedia rights agreement with Learfield Sports kicks off during the 2008-09 academic year. Learfield Sports, a unit of Jefferson City, Mo.-based Learfield Communications, manages the rights to more than 50 collegiate institutions and associations, including those of Montana State.
The agreement enables Learfield Sports to oversee all sponsorship and multimedia rights for UM Athletics. These include advertising opportunities in Washington-Grizzly Stadium and the Adams Center, coaches television shows, radio programming (beginning in 2009-10), certain televised events, corporate hospitality, print sponsorships and athletic event marketing.
"The relationship with Learfield Sports brings together the expertise of a group knowledgeable and experienced in sports marketing and a program that continues to attract attention and fan support in and out of the state," UM President George Dennison said. "We appreciate the opportunity and anticipate that this new relationship will prove very beneficial to both parties."
Work will be done locally by Learfield's Grizzly Sports Properties, an organization that collaborates daily with UM Director of Athletics Jim O'Day and the entire Athletics administration. Leading the GSP sales staff will be Gene Peterson, a longtime Missoula resident; Dan Ingram, former assistant director of the Grizzly Scholarship Association; and Todd Howell.
"We couldn't be more pleased to be moving in this direction," O'Day said. "Learfield Sports has proven to be an outstanding partner over this past season, and we know they are capable of helping us in so many other areas as well."
"Already in a short period of time we've enjoyed a great relationship with the Grizzlies," said Greg Brown, president of Learfield Sports. "We're looking forward to being involved with Jim and his team at Montana on a deeper level, and this new arrangement will make that possible."
