Kettering leads Grizzlies in Moscow

Montana sophomore Mary Kettering ran a career-best 18:30 to finish sixth Saturday afternoon in the women???s five-kilometer race at the Inland Northwest Classic in Moscow, Idaho. Kettering???s performance led the Griz athletes who did not compete Saturday morning at NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
Calgary???s Katie Fenton won the women???s race in a time of 17:55. She was trailed in the top five by Gonzaga???s Corrina O???Brien, who ran a 17:59, Idaho???s Melissa McFadden, who finished in 18:07, Idaho???s Maike Holthuijzen, who went 18:26, and Calgary???s Faye Stenning, who ran an 18:27.
Calgary edged Gonzaga and Idaho for the team title. The Dinos scored 38 points, the Bulldogs 44 and the Vandals 50.
Montana did not have enough athletes to qualify for the team scoring.
Senior Leigh Fredrickson was the Grizzlies??? only other uniformed athlete. She finished 65th with a time of 21:15.
Aleta Jokisch and Faith Steinbacher, both redshirting this season and competing unattached Saturday, placed 47th and 49th, respectively, in times of 20:05 and 20:12.
Sophomore Robbie Brooks led a quartet of Grizzlies with a 17th-place showing in the eight-kilometer men???s race in a time of 25:32.
Freshman Quinton Decker placed 37th in 26:06, redshirt freshmen Cody Lund was 39th in 26:10 and redshirt freshman Casey Weinman was 53rd in 26:38.
Paul Limpf, formerly of Eastern Washington, won the race competing unattached in a time of 24:20.
Kyle King of Eastern Washington was second in 24:21, Markus Geiger of Idaho was third in 24:23, Justin Englund of Washington State was fourth in 24:34 and Matthew Cloutier of Calgary was fifth in 24:55.
Lewis-Clark narrowly won the men???s team title over Eastern Washington, scoring 67 points to the Eagles??? 70. Spokane Community College was third with 93 points.
Montana will compete at the Big Sky Conference championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Greeley, Colo.
