University of Montana sophomore Lindsey Hall was named the Big Sky Conference's Women's Field Athlete of the Week by the league office Monday. Hall was recognized for her dominant performance in the heptathlon last Thursday and Friday at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Sacramento, Calif.
The award is Hall's first career outdoor Big Sky athlete of the week honor. She was recognized in January with her first career indoor athlete of the week honor.
Hall won her first career heptathlon title last week at what will be the site of May's Big Sky Conference outdoor championships at Sacramento State. She finished first or second in six of the heptathlon's seven events to score 5,169 points.
Hall's score currently ranks 12th in the nation.
In a field of eight athletes from Sacramento State, Fresno State and Nevada, the 2011 Big Sky indoor pentathlon champion had the heptathlon's best 100-meter hurdles (14.29), 800 meters (2:28.24) and javelin (121-10) marks and runner-up efforts in the 200 meters (25.95), high jump (5-6) and long jump (18-4.5).
Hall placed fourth in the shot put with an outdoor-career-best 33-5.75 and finished the heptathlon nearly 400 points ahead of the rest of the field.
Hall will have her second heptathlon opportunity this Thursday and Friday at Dornblaser Field in Missoula as part of the three-day Montana Open. Her next heptathlon won't come until the Big Sky Conference championships in mid May.
Sacramento State's Sam Schur, who now ranks 11th nationally with 7,292 points, was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week after winning the decathlon title at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge.
The Hornets swept the track athletes of the week.
Ronald Brookins, who ranks 13th nationally, won the 110-meter hurdles at the Mid-Major Challenge in a time of 13.79.
Lea Wallace won the 800 meters in a time of 2:02.95. It was the fastest time by an American this year, amateur or professional, and the ninth fastest in the world.
