The 2012 Grizzly Scholarship Association Statewide Poker Tournament, now in its fifth year, begins Saturday, March 24th, at the Silver Slipper, located at 4055 Highway 93 South in Missoula.
The event is sponsored by Century Gaming and Summit Beverage.
The grand prize is $5,000 cash, and all of the players who make the final table receive cash prizes. There are usually around 80 to 120 players in the tourney.
This tournament is not designed only for poker players, but it is also a fun event for all Griz supporters to participate in as well.
There will be random drawings for all participants, with Griz gear give-aways and two round trip Allegiant Air tickets to the folks who are playing. First time players should know that the first hour-and-a-half of play is mostly for fun, and then the card-playing starts to get serious.
In the four years that the tournament has been held at different locations across the state, the GSA has raised approximately $115,000 for student-athlete scholarships, including the championship round in Missoula.
This year's tournament at the Silver Slipper starts with check-in at 11:00 a.m. The competition begins at noon. The entrance fee is $200 per player. Players receive a complimentary gift and free appetizers.
There will be plenty of televisions on the site for any basketball fans who want to keep track of the teams that advanced to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament.
