The Montana women's track and field team was named All-Academic recently by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It was the sixth consecutive year the Grizzlies have been so honored by the USTFCCCA.
Four Griz athletes were also named All-Academic by having at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and making NCAA regionals in May: Juniors Gwenn Abbott, Nycole Devers and Kellee Glaus and freshman Samantha Hodgson.
Devers, who also earned the award in 2011, is now a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic recipient.
Montana was one of seven Big Sky Conference women's teams to earn All-Academic status and one of 187 Division I women's programs. The Grizzlies ended the spring semester with a cumulative team GPA of 3.33.
Wofford had the top team GPA in Division I at 3.61. Big Sky Conference member North Dakota came in second at 3.599, with North Dakota State and Oregon State recording GPAs of 3.58.
Montana accounted for four of the 22 Big Sky Conference women's athletes to earn All-Academic status. They were part of 710 women who earned USTFCCCA distinction from 187 Division I schools. Duke had a nation-best 14 selections. Stanford and Arkansas both had 13.
Glaus, the 2013 Big Sky Conference indoor champion in the triple jump and runner-up at the outdoor championships, had a cumulative GPA of 3.93 at the close of the spring semester. She is a biology major.
Devers, who has a 3.71 GPA as a sociology major, made regionals for the second time last spring and had Montana's best performance at regionals in Austin, Texas, with a 16th-place finish in the javelin.
Abbott, who has a 3.61 GPA as a health and human performance major, made regionals in the high jump. Hodgson, who has a 3.50 GPA in the same major, advanced to Austin in the discus.
