Caitlin Caraway and the Montana women's track and field team were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recently for their academic successes.
The Grizzlies, who had a 3.29 cumulative team GPA through the end of the spring semester, were named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the seventh straight year.
Montana was one of 208 Division I women's programs to earn All-Academic Team honors for 2013-14.
Caraway, of Lakeville, Minn., was Montana's lone USTFCCCA All-Academic individual selection. The thrower has a 3.36 GPA as a health and human performance major.
Caraway, who will be a redshirt senior for both the 2015 indoor and outdoor seasons, had a breakout campaign during the 2014 outdoor season.
She entered the spring with a career best of 151-11 in the hammer and smashed that PR with a throw of 177-5 at the season-opening Al Manuel Invitational.
The next weekend Caraway broke the school record with a throw of 182-6. By early May she had increased her PR to 194-2, and that was good enough to send Caraway to her first NCAA West Regional at Fayetteville, Ark., later that month.
"Caitlin is exactly what we look for in the program," said UM assistant track and field coach Adam Bork. "She came in with average marks but a lot of potential. She works really, really hard, and that has helped her improve and develop as a thrower.
"She pushes herself and does everything she can to improve, and that work ethic has really showed in the classroom too. She's a great team leader."
