The Montana volleyball team lost in three quick sets to New Mexico State Sunday on the final day of the Falcon Classic at Colorado Springs, Colo., 13-25, 18-25, 19-25.
Â
In all three sets the Aggies (3-1) got out strong and never lost the lead after the first few points. Aggies middle blocker Gwen Murphy could not be stopped. The senior had 14 kills on 18 swings to hit .722.
Â
New Mexico State outhit Montana (2-1) .367 to .108.
Â
"That was a rough one," said coach Brian Doyon. "Offensively we just weren't as crisp as we would have liked, and New Mexico State took advantage of that."
Â
Regardless of the loss, the Griz did have two notably positive performances. Freshman middle blocker Hailey Jackson led the team in blocks in her second game as a Griz and junior setter Raegan Lindsey was back to her old ways leading the team in assists.
Â
Junior Sadie Ahearn impressed Doyon with her performance under pressure and led the team with 12 digs.
Â
"Sadie was big. She had a lot of digs and did a lot of good work back there," he said.
Â
Before the Griz ship off to Gonzaga next week, Doyon wants his team to focus on its offense and getting back to the basics.
Â
"We're going to work on where we're generating offense and what the team can do to generate a little more. We're also going to do what we've done every week and that's just serving and passing," said Doyon.
Â
Montana will face Utah, Gonzaga and Wyoming next weekend in Spokane.
