Â
Â
Jordon Wallin -- Junior, Meridian, Idaho (USC/Rocky Mountain HS)
Â
Why I started running: I think I started because my friend, who only ran one year because he hated it, convinced me to do it. Then I just continued through middle school because it was satisfying and I was okay at it.
Â
What I remember about my first race: All I can say is, lol.
Â
Trails, track or road: For sure track
Â
Solo or group run: Solo
Â
Most memorable race: My most memorable race was my junior year 800 state championship when I was favored to win. I had run under the state record at districts the week prior and was healthy ready to run fast. I got outkicked in the last 45 meters. The kid who beat me, Thomas Rigby, broke the state record, and it was heartbreaking for me. My most memorable races are always going to be ones I have lost because they are what make me a better runner. Having to get up from a heavy defeat and go again is what makes victories that much sweeter.
Â
Favorite meal the night before a big race: I enjoy a big BBQ chicken salad with a lot of veggies.
Â
Favorite post-race indulgence: Red Vines
Â
Favorite workout: 9x300 with 100 meters jog recovery. Sets of three: first three at 42, next three at 40, the last three at 38. No break between sets, continuous once you start.
Â
Workout I most dread: Mile repeats
Â
If I wasn't a runner, I would be a: Bummy college student
Â
Go-to mantra when the running gets tough: I honestly think about how someone else is working harder than I am who I have to compete against, and it refocuses me.
Â
Favorite time of the day to run: Mid-afternoon
Â
Favorite time of the year to run: February-June
Â
Favorite place near Missoula to run: Honestly, I don't know Missoula well enough to answer this.
Â
Favorite place near your hometown to run: Eagle Greenbelt
Â
Dream running location: Iten, Kenya
Â
Athlete I'd most like to go for a run with: Hicham El Guerrouj
Â
Trend in running I'm not a fan of: Having to watch what I eat.
Â
The number of pairs of running shoes I own: 10
