Idaho hit .336 and kept its postseason hopes alive with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 sweep of the Montana volleyball team Friday night at Moscow, Idaho.
Â
The Vandals (10-17, 5-10 BSC) can earn the No. 8 seed to next week's eight-team Big Sky Conference tournament with a home win over Montana State on Saturday night and a Weber State loss at Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Grizzlies (5-20, 2-13 BSC), who lost for the 12th time in 13 matches and who will lose 20 or more matches for the fourth time in the last five years, wrap up their season on Saturday night at Eastern Washington (12-12, 7-8 BSC).
Â
Idaho, which beat Montana to 10 in each set and never trailed after that, becomes the ninth team this season to hit better than .300 against the Grizzlies.
Â
The match's tightest set came in the opener, when Montana used a pair of kills from sophomore Mykaela Hammer to rally back from a 19-16 deficit and tie it at 20-20. Two kills by the Vandals and two attack errors by the Grizzlies gave Idaho a 24-20 lead on its way to a 25-21 win.
Â
The Vandals hit .395 over the final two sets to win for the third time in five matches and avenge a five-set loss to the Grizzlies in Missoula in September.
Â
Sophomore outside hitter Alexis Urbach had 12 kills on .391 hitting and a team-high three blocks for Montana.
Â
The Grizzlies' starting middle blockers, Hammer and freshman McKenzie Kramer, combined for 13 kills on .462 hitting.
Â
Montana hit .216, just the fourth time this season the Grizzlies have hit better than .200.
Â
Senior setter Raegan Lindsey had 18 assists and nine digs. Freshman outside hitter Missy Huddleston was limited to three kills on 14 swings but had a team-high 13 digs.
Â
The Grizzlies and Eagles will play at 9 p.m. (MT) on Saturday in Cheney. Eastern Washington is locked in as the No. 7 seed at next week's Big Sky tournament, which will be held at either Grand Forks, N.D., or Greeley, Colo.
