
Academic awards roll in for track and field program

A program-record five individuals and Montana's men's and women's teams were recognized this week for their academic success by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Hana Feilzer, Jensen Lillquist, Alex Mustard, Sterling Reneau and Nicole Stroot all were named USTFCCCA All-Academic for advancing to the NCAA West Regional while also maintaining at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average in the classroom.

Coach Brian Schweyen's women's squad, which had a 3.29 cumulative GPA at the end of the spring semester, was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the eighth time in Schweyen's eight-year tenure.

And for the second straight year, the men's team, which had a 3.12 cumulative GPA after the spring semester, joined the women's team in earning All-Academic honors.

There were 220 NCAA Division I women's teams that were named All-Academic, 122 men's teams. To earn the award, teams must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Lillquist, who has a 3.75 GPA as an English literature major, becomes a two-time All-Academic selection. The other athletes were honored for the first time.

Feilzer has a 3.29 GPA as a sociology major, Mustard a 3.53 GPA as a finance major, Reneau a 3.48 GPA as a health and human performance major, Stroot a 3.53 GPA as a biology major.

Lillquist had the quintet's best performance at May's NCAA West Regional, placing 14th in the javelin, two spots from advancing to nationals.

Mustard placed 30th in the 200 meters, Feilzer 40th in the hammer, Reneau 41st in the 400 meters and Stroot 43rd in the long jump.

The program's previous record for individual selections was four in 2013.
