Â
The University of Montana is currently accepting nominations for its prestigious Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame (GSHF). The nomination deadline is April 1, 2017.
Â
The GSHF was created to "pay tribute and give lasting recognition to those student-athletes, coaches, and teams who have made exceptional contributions, and brought recognition, honor, and distinction to the University of Montana in the field of Intercollegiate Athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted by their experiences."
Â
The Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame is comprised of 56 former UM athletes and coaches, along with five different teams.Â
Â
Last year's GSHF inductees included football standout Rocky Klever (1977-81), who held the school record for career rushing yards (2,228) for 19 years and Lady Griz great Greta (Koss) Buehler (1993-97), who remains ranked among school leaders in several career categories, including fifth in rebounds (846). Defensive linemen Larry Miller (1966-70), a two-time All-American, whose UM football teams went a perfect 10-0 in the regular-season in both 1969 and 1970 was also inducted posthumously.
Â
A detailed description of the mission and criteria, as well as a nomination form for the GSHF, are available at GoGriz.com.
Â
Nominations can also be mailed to the GSHF Committee, John Hoyt Athletic Complex, 32 Campus Drive, Missoula, MT 59812.
Â
Plaques of athletes, coaches, and teams who have been inducted into the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame since it started in 1993 are on permanent display is UM's "Hall of Champions," located in Adams Center.
