Montana volleyball has been on the road this month, going from Bozeman to Spokane, and again this weekend to Helena. But after three weeks of traveling, the Grizzlies will return home next weekend to finally play in front of their home crowd.
Â
"We're really excited to play in front of our fans and let them see what we've been working on and how we've improved since they last saw us play in November," said second-year head coach Allison Lawrence.
Â
That Nov. 11 night, in the 2017 season finale, Montana swept Eastern Washington. Mykaela Hammer had a team-high 11 kills vs. the Eagles, Maddy Marshall had a double-double and McKenzie Kramer had a team-most four blocks.
Â
Each will be participating in Montana's intrasquad scrimmage (Friday, April 27 at 5:30 p.m. in Dahlberg Arena).
Â
The scrimmage will conclude Montana's spring calendar, which began way back in January with individual work and progressed into competition dates at Montana State, Gonzaga and Carroll.
Â
While the scrimmage will highlight the evening, the action begins earlier, at 4:30 p.m., with a free youth clinic for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Â
"We try to get out in the community as much as we can, and part of that is with our camps," Lawrence said.
Â
Montana will host more camps than ever before this summer, for children of all ages, positions and skill levels.
Â
"We really want to do what we can to grow the volleyball community in Missoula, and part of that is growing the next generation," Lawrence continued. "While we hope they will join us for our camps throughout the summer, we also wanted to give the Missoula area an opportunity to learn the game from our players and coaching staff before getting to watch our team compete on April 27."
Â
Whether they've never picked up a volleyball or have experience that they want to develop further, the youth clinic is open to anyone between kindergarten and sixth grade. While free, space is limited to 60 participants so advanced registration is strongly encouraged.
Â
"We hope this clinic and our scrimmage will help grow the game we love," Lawrence said. "We're excited for a fun night of volleyball!"
