McGee, Sudol put forth strong showings

A pair of women from the Montana track and field team exceeded their seed expectations at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Thursday evening.
Â
Shealyne McGee cleared 12-6.25 on her third attempt. The next progression brought the bar to 13-0.75. Last week, McGee became the only Grizzly woman to ever pole vault higher than 13 feet in breaking the school record. She came up just short of duplicating the feat in Sacramento, but ends her season with head held high.
Â
McGee finished in 41st of the 48 competitors, up from her seed position of 47th. She cleared at least 12 feet in eight of the nine meets she appeared in this season and will return to Montana in 2024 as one of the Big Sky favorites.
Â
Holly Sudol ran in the opening heat of the women's 400-meter hurdles. Sudol ran her characteristic race, closing strong at the line for a time of 1:00.37. She finished in seventh in her heat and 40th overall in the event, improving one spot from her seed coming in.
Â
The senior is the only Big Sky athlete to break 60 seconds in the event this season and ends her career as a Big Sky Champion, three-time All-Big Sky honoree and the 2023 Grizzly Cup winner.
Â
Erin Wilde will be the final Grizzly to participate in the NCAA West Regional, competing in the women's high jump on Saturday afternoon.
