Community invited to kick off fall seasons with Griz in the Park on Aug. 24

Griz fans are invited to Caras Park on Thursday, Aug. 24 for Griz in the Park, a free season kickoff event.

For the first time since 2017, Griz Athletics will be taking over Downtown ToNight – Missoula Downtown's popular Thursday-night series that features live music and food trucks – from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. In addition to the music and food trucks, fans will have the opportunity to mingle with Griz coaches and student-athletes, get photos and autographs, and more.

The giant, inflatable helmet that the football team runs out of on game day will be set up for fans to run through, as will stations for autographs and the opportunity to dress in Griz jerseys for photos.

Coaches and student-athletes from all of Montana's fall sports – soccer, volleyball, football and cross country – will be in attendance, as will Monte, the spirit squads and other Griz student-athletes.

The Griz soccer team is looking to win its fifth Big Sky Conference title in the past six seasons and will open its regular season earlier that day, at 2 p.m. on Aug. 24, vs. MSU-Billings. Later that weekend, on Sunday, Aug. 27, Montana will host Ohio State of the Big Ten. Anticipation is already building as the program looks to sell out South Campus Stadium and set a new attendance record.

Griz volleyball is coming off of its best season in 23 years and brings back a pair of All-Big Sky Conference players, as well as the Big Sky Coach of the Year in Allison Lawrence. Volleyball will open its season the following day, on Friday, Aug. 25, with a home tournament. Some of the nation's top teams will visit Missoula that weekend, including Pitt (2022 Final Four) and BYU (2022 NCAA tournament second round). Fans can also mark their calendars for the Brawl of the Wild on Friday, Sept. 29, as part of homecoming weekend.

The cross country teams open their season next weekend and will get to host two meets in Missoula, running at home on Sept. 15 and again on Oct. 27 for the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships.

Griz football will kick off the following weekend, Saturday, Sept. 2, with its first of three home games during the month of September. The Grizzlies have won 21 of their past 23 games inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium, and need your support to continue a home-field advantage. Tickets are on sale now.
