Nap, Oke named Academic All-District

The Montana Grizzlies finished up a successful season on the court this week, and they added some postseason accolades on the academic side as well. Laolu Oke and Jaxon Nap were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District Team by College Sports Communicators.

Nominees need to have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and play in at least 90 percent of their team's games to be eligible.

Oke, a second-year Grizzly that is pursuing a master's degree in business administration. The transfer from Metro State-Denver has a cumulative GPA of 3.79.

The big man started 33 games this season for Montana, averaging 6.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He had five double-doubles this season and led the Big Sky and ranked 71st in the country with 2.8 offensive rebounds per game.

Oke had 19 rebounds against Nevada this season, the most in a single game by a Grizzly since 2015. His 99 offensive rebounds this season were more in a single season than any other Grizzly since at least 2010.

Nap, a sophomore from Renton, Wash., has a cumulative GPA of 3.72. He is a finance major.

He played a key role off the Montana bench this season, averaging 10.0 minutes per game in 35 contests. Nap averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Nap delivered the signature performance of his career on the road at Montana State in January, scoring 17 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. He made a clutch three-pointer down the stretch to seal a Grizzly win in the rivalry game.

This is the first career honor for both players. Montana finished the season 24-12 overall, the seventh-most wins in program history, and won a postseason game for the first time since 2006 with a victory at the Ro College Basketball Invitational over the weekend.
