The most decorated female high jumper in Big Sky Conference has officially taken her final leap as a Grizzly. Erin Wilde, the four-time outdoor and three-time indoor champion, finished 32nd at the NCAA West First Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday.
Â
The meet brings to close a career that saw Wilde break the indoor and outdoor program records while winning seven conference titles and 29 of the 52 total meets she competed in during her overall time as a Grizzly.
Â
Wilde cleared 5-9.25 on Saturday, her best performance at a regional meet in four attempts. There were only 26 athletes that cleared a bar higher than Wilde, but she dropped to 32nd in the tiebreakers with misses on the first two bars.
Â
"Erin jumped the highest that she's jumped at the regional meet in her career," head coach Doug Fraley said. "We're so proud of everything that she's accomplished and all that she has done for our program."
Â
The top mark in the meet was 6-1.5. All 12 athletes that advanced to next week's national championship in Eugene, Ore. cleared that height.
Â
Wilde finishes her career with four regional appearances to go along with her stacked Big Sky trophy case. Â
Â
Her jump brings the First Rounds to a close for the Grizzlies. Montana had a record number of athletes qualify for the regional meet with 14 competing across 16 total events. On Friday, freshman Titus Jeffrey competed in the discus but did not record a distance.
Â
Kevin Swindler became just the second Grizzly since 2019 to advance to the National Championship meet on Thursday afternoon. The Grizzly pole vaulter cleared 17-7.25 in the rain to punch his ticket.
Â
Swindler, an Oregon native, will compete in Eugene on Wednesday, June 10 against the 23 best pole vaulters in the country.
