
Four Grizzlies named Academic All-District

The University of Montana track and field program placed four athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team following the 2026 season. Ashley Carroll, Brynn Fuller, Carson Hegele, and Kevin Swindler all earned the distinction for their work on the classroom and in competition.

In order to be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA while holding a top-50 regional ranking indoors or outdoors in a single event.

Ashley Carroll earned the athletic qualification on her final throw of the season in the women's javelin, placing second at the Big Sky Conference Championship meet with a throw of 156-5. The mark ranked 49th in the west and earned her a spot at the NCAA First Round meet.

Carroll, a psychology major from Shepherd, Montana, has a 3.54 cumulative GPA at Montana.

Brynn Fuller won the Big Sky title in women's javelin in her first season as a Grizzly. She ranked 39th in the West Region with her winning mark of 160-4 and went on to place 29th at the NCAA First Round meet in the event.

Fuller transferred to Montana in 2025 from Bismarck State. The sophomore is majoring in integrative physiology and has a 3.86 cumulative GPA.

Carson Hegele finished as the runner-up in the Big Sky Conference in men's pole vault both indoors and outdoors this year. He set the program record indoors during the year, clearing a season-best 17-4.5 at the Indoor Big Sky Championship.

Hegele placed 28th at the NCAA West First Rounds after finishing the season ranked 35th. Hegele graduated from the University of Montana in 2026 with a degree in wildlife biology. He maintained a 3.69 cumulative GPA while competing for the Grizzlies.

Kevin Swindler became the second Grizzly since 2019 to reach the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship when he qualified in the men's pole vault this season. The school record holder won an indoor Big Sky title and was an honorable mention All-American, finishing 21st in the NCAA with a mark of 17-6.5 in Eugene.

Swindler is a junior at Montana and has a 3.65 cumulative GPA while majoring in integrative physiology.
