The 2027 season is Jayline Sloss’s first year as an assistant coach with the Montana softball program. She works with the team’s pitchers.
Sloss, born and raised in Bakersfield, Calif., was recruited to Cal State San Marcos when Montana coach Stef Ewing was leading the Cougars.
Sloss had one of the best careers in program history, going 65-32 over four seasons (2022-25) with a 2.05 ERA.
She finished with 40 complete games and 14 shutouts, and totaled 433 strikeouts over 652 innings pitched.
Sloss was a first-team NFCA All-West Region selection as a junior in 2024, second-team All-West Region as a freshman and senior.
After San Marcos won just 21 games over three COVID-impacted seasons of 2019, ’20 and ’21, Sloss went 16-4 as a freshman in 2022, with the Cougars going 45-14 and making NCAA Super Regionals.
Sloss, the NCAA West Regional MVP as a sophomore, helped the Cougars make the 2023 NCAA Division II College World Series.
She was the CCAA Pitcher of the Year as a junior and CCAA tournament MVP, and helped San Marcos make Super Regionals for the third time in four years as a senior.
With Sloss on staff, the Cougars had a four-year record of 158-80. She graduated in 2025 with a degree in liberal studies. She is working on a master’s degree in education at Montana.
