The 2026-27 season is Kayla Anderson’s third year as an assistant coach at Montana.
She was hired in the summer of 2024 after previously working for one season as a graduate assistant at Southern Utah.
In her first year at Montana, the Lady Griz advanced to the Big Sky Conference championship game, where they were a last-second shot from advancing to the program’s first NCAA tournament since 2015.
In her second season with the Lady Griz, in 2025-26, Montana went 9-22 and won a postseason game for the third straight year.
Anderson’s start in coaching followed a five-year playing career that led her to three different schools.
She played one season (2018-19) at Salt Lake Community College for a team that won a region championship, then started all 29 games in 2019-20 for Midland (Texas) College.
She spent her final three seasons at Utah Valley, twice earning Academic All-WAC honors. She graduated from Utah Valley in 2022 with a degree in exercise science.
Utah Valley advanced to the 2021 NCAA tournament, with Anderson starting for the Wolverines against eventual national champion Stanford in a first-round game in San Antonio, Texas.
In 2021-22, Anderson had a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double in a 99-59 home win over Utah Tech and nine assists in a 62-43 home win over Portland State as Utah Valley won 16 games.
Anderson suffered a season-ending injury four games into her final playing season in 2022-23.
Originally from Meridian, Idaho, Anderson is a 2017 graduate of Mountain View High. She was on the school’s Class 5A state championship teams as a sophomore and junior.
She earned a master’s degree in sports conditioning and performance from Southern Utah in 2025.
