A 20-10 Furman loss to Georgia Southern has dropped the formerly No. 2 ranked Paladins to fifth, accounting for the biggest change in the top-five of the Sports Network Division I-AA national poll released Monday afternoon.
Montana remained on top after escaping a serious upset bid by unranked Idaho State. The 8-1 Grizzlies received 79 first-place votes.
With their win over Furman, defending national champion Georgia Southern moved from fourth to second and received 10 first-place votes.
Grambling State, who had been No. 3, fell to ninth after losing their first game of the season, 45-38 to Alabama State. Youngstown State jumped from 10th to No. 8 with a victory over Southern Illinois last week.
Other than Lehigh, two undefeated teams remain in the national top 25. Pennsylvania, 7-0, got by Princeton 21-10 last week but actually fell from 18th to No. 19. No. 24 Harvard makes its first appearance on the poll this week. The Crimson are 7-0 on the season.
Northern Arizona was the only Big Sky team other than Montana to be ranked. The Lumberjacks went from 17th to No. 16 with their 42-33 win over Eastern Washington last Saturday. With the loss, the Eagles dropped off the poll from 21st and were eliminated from post-season contention.
Big games in I-AA this week include the Ivy League Championship game as No. 24, 7-0 Harvard hosts the 7-0, 19th ranked Pennsylvania Quakers. No. 15 Northern Iowa hosts sixth-ranked Western Kentucky and 10th ranked Northwestern State travels to take on No. 13 McNeese State.
