Grizzly Tennis Teams Head To Conference Championships

Men Draw Defending Conference Champs: The University of Montana men's tennis team (13-9) will play defending Big Sky Conference champs Sacramento State in the first round of the conference championships.
The Grizzlies are seeded No. 4 and will battle the No. 5 Hornets on Thursday, April 25, at 9 a.m. at Westview High School in Portland, Oregon. The Grizzlies defeated the Hornets 4-3 at the Nevada Invitational in March.
"We're hoping everyone is healthy and ready to play. Our guys need to go in with the right mindset and be ready to compete. Hopefully we'll have a couple of good days of practice and be ready to go by Thursday," assistant coach Brian Hanford said.
Each match played will be based on a four point scoring system in which the first team to score four points wins the match. All singles matches will follow the doubles play. Other matches being played Thursday on the men's side are: No. 1 Northern Arizona vs. No. 8 Eastern Washington, No. 2 Montana State vs. No. 7 Portland State and No. 3 Idaho State vs. No. 6 Weber State.
Women Draw Weber State: The Grizzly women (9-11) will battle Weber State in the first round of the conference championships. The women are also seeded No. 4 and will battle the No. 5 Wildcats on Friday, April 26, at 9 a.m. in Portland, Oregon. The Grizzlies defeated Weber State 6-1 earlier in the season at the Boise State Invitational.
"Everyone is healthy, they had a few good days of practice last week and hope to get a couple more in this week so they should be ready to go," Hanford said.
The women's matches will also be scored on a four point scoring system. Other matches being played Friday on the women's side are: No. 1 Sacramento State vs. No. 8 Eastern Washington, No. 2 Northern Arizona vs. No. 7 Montana State and No. 3 Idaho State vs. No. 6 Portland State.
Men's and women's semifinal matches will be played Saturday, April 27, followed by the finals matches for the men and women on Sunday, April, 28 in Portland, Oregon.
