Grizzlies roll to 2-0 victory over Idaho State

The University of Montana women's soccer team scored two first half goals to capture its second Big Sky victory of the season, a 2-0 triumph over Idaho State on Sunday afternoon at Davis Field in Pocatello, Idaho.
With the win Montana moves to 6-5-2 on the season. The Grizzlies' 2-0-1 league mark places them in a tie with Eastern Washington for second in the league standings. Idaho State drops to 5-5-3 and 0-2-1 in league play.
"We are very happy with our team and the maturity it showed in the match." Griz coach Neil Sedwick said. "It was a solid effort in that they came on the road and got the win over a very strong team - a team that was picked to finish first in the Big Sky."
Montana took the early lead in the seventh minute of play on a goal by senior forward Tara Schwager, her third of the season. The score was set up by senior midfielder Nikki Bolstad who dribbled through several Bengal defenders and fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Schwager rebounded the ball that ricocheted off the post and beat ISU goalkeeper Shannon Boyle to put the Griz up 1-0.
"It was a great individual effort by Nikki (Bolstad) and a great conscious effort by Tara (Schwager) to follow up the shot, that's what forwards do." Sedgwick said.
The Grizzlies took a commanding 2-0 lead in the 41st minute on a goal by freshman forward Meghan Chambers. Sophomore defender Kelly Fullerton played a ball from the right side off a free kick, which bounced through the 18-yard box right to Chambers who headed in her second goal of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Jamie Rizzuto recorded five saves en route to her second shutout in three games. The converted midfielder is now 4-3-1 in goal this season and has lowered her goals allowed average to 1.19.
Idaho State was whistled for 17 fouls in the match to Montana's 11. The Bengals out-shot the Grizzlies 9-8 and held a 2-1 corner kick advantage in the match.
Montana returns to action on Sunday, October 24, with a home contest against Northern Arizona, the Grizzlies' lone match of the week.
