Griz drop dual to New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The University of Montana men's tennis team lost 1-5 to New Mexico State in a Thursday evening dual match at the NMSU Tennis Center in Las Cruces, N.M. The match was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. but rainy conditions pushed the start time back to 7 p.m. Junior Jan Steenekamp, making his Spring tennis season debut, was the only Grizzly competitor to register a win. Steenekamp, the Grizzlies top singles player, forced NMSU's No. 1 singles player Ben Archer-Clowes to retire (7-5, 3-0). Montana (2-2, 0-1 Big Sky) has a 6 p.m. dual match Friday against New Mexico (4-4, 0-0 Mountain West) at the Lobo Tennis Club in Albuquerque.
