Ochs, Carpenter honored by Big Sky

The Big Sky Conference has announced its football players of the week for games played the weekend of Sept. 6. The Offensive Player of the Week is Montana quarterback Craig Ochs. Portland State defensive end Andrew Dorsey is the Defensive Player of the Week and Montana placekicker Dan Carpenter earned the Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Ochs, a senior from Boulder, Colo., completed 22-of-33 passes for 217 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in third-ranked Montana's 27-20 non-conference victory over No. 11 Maine. Ochs threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jefferson Heidelberger in the third quarter and threw scoring strikes of 12 yards to Jon Talmage and two yards to Willie Walden in the fourth quarter. Ochs also rushed for 33 yards.
Dorsey, a senior from Hawthorne, Calif., registered a team-high eight tackles - one for loss - and recovered two fumbles as Portland State beat Western State 38-0. It was Portland State's first shutout in 19 games. Portland State scored touchdowns on the very next play after both of Dorsey's fumble recoveries.
Carpenter, a freshman from Helena, Mont., connected on field goals of 32 and 47 yards in Montana's victory over Maine. Carpenter also made all three of his extra points to finish with nine points. Carpenter was 5-for-5 on kicks in his first career game.
