Swanson, UM golfers finish sixth at BSU Invitational

The University of Montana golf team carded a final-round 312 Tuesday to finish in sixth place at the Boise State Invitational in Eagle, Idaho. The Grizzlies, who fired a first-round 314 and followed that up with a second-round 310, moved up one spot from seventh on the final day of play at the par-71, 6,225-yard BanBury Golf Club.
UM junior Krista Swanson paced the Griz with a sixth place finish after tallying a three-round 223 (78-72-73). Swanson, who carded UM's low final-round of 73, was the highest finisher for Big Sky competitors at the tournament, which had six league schools competing.
Senior Jasi Acharya registered a 54-hole total of 234 (82-76-76) which placed her in a tie for 21st overall. Senior Mary Hasselberg (77-81-84) and sophomore Brittany Williamson (77-81-84) each tied for 42nd overall after accumulating a three-round 242. Rounding out the Griz competitors was sophomore Anna Maria Jaramillo who finished tied for 56th with a 248 (86-83-79).
UC Davis took home the team championship with a three-round team score of 915, three strokes ahead of second-place Idaho. Eastern Washington recorded the best team finish of the Big Sky schools with a third-place 924.
Santa Clara's Megan Stoddart won the individual medalist honors after tallying a 218, holding off UC Davis' Danielle Cvitanov who finished second with a 219.
Montana returns to action Oct. 17-18 for its final fall tournament, the 54-hole San Diego State Classic played at The Auld Course in San Diego, Calif.
