MONTANA AT IDAHO STATE IN LEAGUE MATCH-UP:
The fourth-ranked Montana Grizzlies (3-1 overall/1-0 Big Sky Conference), continue their 2005 Big Sky Conference schedule, playing the 25th-ranked Idaho State Bengals (3-2/1-1 Big Sky) in ISU?s Holt Arena. Kickoff is at 3:05 p.m. (Mountain).
RADIO/TV:
The game will be broadcast on the Griz Radio Network throughout Montana. KPAX-TV of Missoula will air the game live on KPAX-TV and the Montana Television Network. KPAX Sports Director Jeremy Jorgenson calls the play-by-play and KPAX-TV?s General Manager Bob Hermes provides color commentary.
LAST GAME: at MONTANA 24, WEBER STATE 19:
Montana?s defense forced four turnovers, as UM won its 13th Homecoming game in a row. The Griz defense made a crucial stand on the Wildcats? final possession to preserve the victory.
HUGE CROWD:
The attendance of 23,773 was the second largest ever in 139 games in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. (The record is 23, 773 vs. Montana State last season).
TORREY HAS KEY PICK:
Sophomore free safety Torrey Thomas returned a pick 54 yards for a TD (giving the Grizzlies a 21-10 lead) in one of the game?s biggest plays.
?D? MAKES BIG STAND:
WSU moved the ball to UM?s 30-yard line on its final possession, but after a 7-yard run, penalty, and two incompletions, Mike Murphy had his second sack and third forced fumble on the game?s final play to preserve the win for UM.
HILLIARD GAINS 100+ AGAIN:
Junior halfback Lex Hilliard had 24 carries for 159 yards and he had a 3-yard TD run vs. WSU. It was Hilliard?s third 100-yard game of the season (he had 108 vs. Fort Lewis and 128 against SDSU) and the eighth of his career.
BIG SKY ?POW?:
Senior defensive tackle Alan Saenz blocked WSU PAT and field goal attempts and was named the ?Big Sky?s Special Teams Player of the Week.? He now has six career blocked kicks.
TALMAGE SHINES:
Senior receiver Jon Talmage had a team-high 5 catches for 61 yards in the WSU win, and had an acrobatic 24-yard touchdown grab -- his third of the season.
QB WASHINGTON INJURED:
Griz junior QB Jason Washington was 13-of-26-0 for 142 yards and a score, but was injured in the third quarter on a blind-sided sack.
GRIZ CAPTAINS:
Montana?s season-long captains are: 76-Brad Rhoades (OT), 20-JR Waller (RB), 47-Shane MacIntyre (LB) and 96-Lance Spencer (DE). Additional captains for ISU game are: 99-Saenz, 32-Torrey Thomas (FS), 69-Chris Orwig (OG), and 90-Murphy.
HILLIARD MOVES UP CAREER RUSHING LIST:
Hilliard now has 1,972 career rushing yards and moves up to fourth on the career list, passing Josh Branen. Hilliard needs only 63 yards to pass Steve Caputo and become the fourth player in Monana history to rush for more than 2,000 yards. Waller has 1,547 yards and remains 13th on the career list, just 7 yards behind Les Kent.
TALMAGE 10TH ON LIST:
Talmage moved up to eighth on UM?s career receiving yards with 2,295 career yards, passing Bill Cockhill. He needs just 6 yards to move to seventh and pass Etu Molden.
TRIO MOVES UP ON LIST:
Hilliard had moved up to 12th on the career scoring list, while sophomore kicker Dan Carpenter is 17th, and Talmage is 18th.
