Hal Sherbeck dinner slated for Saturday, April 16

"An Evening With Hal Sherbeck: A Grizzly Success Story," is slated for Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Elks Club in Missoula, beginning with a no-host social hour at 6:00 p.m.
It was also recently announced that Sherbeck and three other former UM athletes, as well as the 1995 UM football team will be inducted into the Grizzly Athletic Hall of Fame this fall.
The master of ceremonies is Gene Leonard. Guest speakers include former Griz head football coaches Mick Dennehy and Don Read, current UM head grid coach Bobby Hauck, and Dr. Robert Seim, a long-time friend of Sherbeck's. There will also be a video presentations by former UM mentor Joe Glenn and others.
The cost of the function is $50, and the proceeds will benefit the 1952-55 Football Endowment Scholarship at UM. Tickets must be purchased by calling Linda Cardinal in the UM football office at 243-2969, by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.
Sherbeck is from Big Sandy, Montana. He came to Montana from Olympic Junior College in Washington. At Montana he earned six letters: two in football, two in basketball, and two in baseball. In basketball he was a team captain and MVP as a senior. He was inducted into the Grizzly Basketball Hall of Fame on April 1, 1957.
He coached at UM from 1956-61, and was the head baseball coach (1956-1961), freshman football coach (1956-60), frosh basketball coach (1956-1959) and assistant varsity basketball coach (1960-61). He was the head football coach at Missoula County High School from 1952-55 and guided his teams to three state titles in his four seasons there.
He left Montana for Fullerton Junior College in California, becoming the head football coach there in 1961. His Fullerton teams won junior college national championships in 1965 (10-0), 1967 (12-0), and 1983 (10-0-1). In his 31-years at Fullerton he had a career record of 241-70-8 (.768).
