Griz men top ISU for second-straight league win

The University of Montana men's tennis team won the doubles point and took three of six singles contests in a 4-3 win over Idaho State Sunday afternoon at the Lindsay Tennis Center in Missoula.
The Griz improve to 7-13 overall and finish Big Sky Conference play in fourth with a 3-3 record. The Bengals fall to 8-12, 2-4 in league action.
Montana won singles matches at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 in their regular-season finale.
For the second straight day the Grizzlies prevailed with the match coming down to the final singles contest.
On Sunday it was sophomore Doug Shryock's turn to be the deciding factor. With the match locked up at 3-3, the Whitefish, Mont., native won 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (4) at the No. 6 position to lift UM to victory.
Freshman Colin Mascall and sophomore Stuart Wing recorded straight-set wins for UM. Mascall won 7-6 (1), 6-3 over ISU's Ivan Moferdin at the top of the singles lineup. Wing improved his season mark to 12-7 after a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alex Danilkovich at the No. 3.
Montana won two of three doubles contests to take the early 1-0 lead.
Mascall and Wing won 8-3 over ISU's Masimba Ruwo and Jemre Okoh at the No. 1 position. Senior Gus Treyz and junior Varun Giri battled back from a 5-2 deficit at No. 2 doubles to win 8-6 over Danilkovich and Moferdin.
The Grizzlies (7-13, 3-3 Big Sky) have earned the four-seed in the Big Sky Conference championships which take place April 28-May 1.
