Griz finish play ITA Regionals

The University of Montana doubles team of junior Mari Castello and sophomore Liz Walker suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to eventual tournament runner-ups Sofia Holden and Lauren Jones of BYU, 8-3, at the ITA Regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah. The duo finished the tournament with a record of 3-1.
The team did not fair as well in the singles competition as the Grizzlies failed to advance past the round of 64. Walker lost to eventual tournament runner-up Anastasia Surkova of BYU, 6-1, 6-2, while Castello lost to Lara Neil of Colorado State, 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Danni Paulson fell to Nora Quintal of New Mexico, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Stuart Wing was the top finisher for Montana in the singles competition at the ITA Regionals in Las Vegas, Nev. Wing fell to Blake Boswell of Boise State, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 32 after defeating Ricardo Gorostiaga of New Mexico State, 6-3, 6-1, in the round of 64.
The doubles team of sophomore Colin Dektar and freshman Raydner Ramos fell to Big Sky foes Jakob Dybala and Kyle McDonald of Montana State, 9-7, in the round of 32 after defeating Jeff Morys and Michael Platzer of Northern Arizona, 8-5, in the round of 64.
Day Three Recap
The University of Montana women's doubles team of junior Mari Castello and sophomore Liz Walker have advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The duo defeated Patricia Ruman and Mariel Tinnirello of Idaho, 8-5 in the round of 32. Castello and Walker beat the pair earlier this season, 9-7, at the EWU Invitational.
The pair advanced to the quarterfinals after they downed Franziska Jendrian and Monica Milevski of Colorado, 8-2. The pair will face the second ranked team of Sofia Holden and Lauren Jones of BYU in the quarterfinals.
"Mari and Liz have really played well. They have suprised a lot of teams and they will continue to suprise a lot of teams. I am really excited for the chances that they have had at the tournament," said coach Jen Anderson.
Freshman Danni Paulson and senior Cheyne Ursich were defeated by Elizabeth Ferris and Leigh Walsh of Utah, 8-3, in the round of 32.
No men's results were available at press time.

Junior Mari Castello and sophomore Liz Walker defeated Lorinda Boothman and Marisa Mecham of Denver, 8-6, while freshman Danni Paulson and senior Cheyne Ursich downed Valerie Espinosa and Katherine Zigars of Idaho State, 8-2.
The team did not fair as well in singles action as Walker, Paulson and Castello all fell in the round of 64. Walker was defeated by Anastasia Sourkova of BYU, 6-1, 6-2, while Paulson was downed by Nora Quintal of New Mexico, 6-2, 6-2. Castello fell to Lara Neil of Colorado State, 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Raydner Ramos was defeated by Graeme Kassautzki of New Mexico, 6-3, 6-1, in the round of 64. Ramos defeated Myles Perkins of Montana State, 6-2, 6-1, in the round of 128.
Ramos and Dektar also won their first round doubles match as they defeated Jeff Morys and Michael Platzer, 8-5, in the round of 64.
The Montana women's team is also competing in the ITA Regionals held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Senior Cheyne Ursich defeated Regan Newman of Northern Arizona, 6-0, 6-4. Ursich was defeated in the round of 32 by Hilary Tyler of CSU, 6-4, 6-1.
